Linear
Connect Linear Initiatives and Projects to Deck.
Linear Integration
Connect Linear when your team manages delivery in Linear and wants Deck Initiatives and Projects to stay tied to customer evidence.
With Linear connected, Deck can import Linear Initiatives and their child Projects, import individual Linear Projects, link existing Deck Projects to Linear Projects, and create Linear Projects from Deck Project context.
What You Can Do
- import a Linear Initiative as a Deck Initiative
- import the child Linear Projects from that Initiative as Deck Projects
- import an existing Linear Project as a Deck Project
- link an existing Deck Project to a Linear Project
- create a new Linear Project from a Deck Project
- choose Linear teams, owners, statuses, priorities, and dates during handoff
- keep Deck connected to Linear URLs and top-level status metadata
Connect Linear
- Go to Settings -> Integrations.
- Open the Linear integration.
- Click Connect.
- Complete the Linear authorization flow.
- Return to Deck and open Build -> Initiatives or Build -> Projects.
After connecting, Linear options appear in Initiative import, Project import, and external handoff menus.
Import a Linear Initiative
- Open Build -> Initiatives.
- Open the New menu.
- Choose Import from Linear.
- Select a Linear Initiative.
- If segments are enabled, optionally choose the segment for the imported Initiative and child Projects.
- Confirm the import.
Deck creates a new Initiative, stores the Linear Initiative link, and imports child Linear Projects under the new Initiative when those Projects are not already linked in Deck. Already-linked child Projects are skipped and reported after import.
Import a Linear Project
- Open Build -> Projects.
- Choose the Linear import option.
- Select a Linear Project.
- Optionally choose the initiative the Project should belong to.
- If segments are enabled, optionally choose the segment for the Project.
- Confirm the import.
Deck creates a new Project and copies mappable fields such as the title, description, status, owner, dates, and Overview content when available.
Link an Existing Deck Project
- Open the Deck Project.
- Open the external handoff menu.
- Choose the Linear link option.
- Select a Linear Project.
- Link the Project.
Deck stores the Linear link and fills only empty execution metadata from Linear. If the Deck Project is still Not started, Deck can update its status from the Linear status. If the Deck Project has no start date or target date, Deck can fill those dates from Linear. Deck does not overwrite the Project title, owner, description, segments, Overview, Evidence, or Success Metrics during linking.
Create a Linear Project From Deck
- Open a Deck Project.
- Open the external handoff menu.
- Choose the Linear create option.
- Select the Linear team and owner details.
- Optionally set status, priority, start date, and target date.
- Optionally edit the short Description (max 255 characters). Deck prefills it from the Project description when one exists. This becomes Linear’s project description (the text under the title in list views).
- Optionally generate an editable Overview from the Deck Project context. After create, Deck writes this to Linear’s project overview (
content) so long AI text is not truncated to 255 characters. - Create the Linear Project.
Deck then stores the Linear Project link on the Project. Long Overview text scrolls in the dialog instead of stretching the form. Jira create still uses a single Description field for the epic body.
Important Behavior
- A Deck Project can have one external execution link at a time.
- A Linear Project can be linked to one Deck Project per organization.
- A Linear Initiative can be linked to one Deck Initiative per organization.
- Unlinking removes only the Deck-side link. It does not delete or change the Linear Project.
- Creating a Linear Project from Deck writes a short Description (max 255) to Linear
descriptionand an optional AI Overview to Linearcontent. Jira create still uses a single Description field for the epic body. - Linking an existing Deck Project fills only empty or default execution fields from Linear. Full title, description, owner, segment, and document overwrites are not part of the link flow.
- Deck refreshes provider-owned top-level metadata daily for linked Linear Projects and Linear Initiatives, including title, description, owner, dates, status, completion time, and linked Linear URL/title.
- Deck does not sync Linear child relationships after import. Project and Initiative documents, evidence, outcomes, and generated sections remain Deck-owned and are not overwritten by Linear sync.
