Sync, filter, and analyze sales calls from Gong

Gong Integration

Connect Gong to turn sales calls into Deck feedback, insights, themes, and customer segments. Deck can import calls manually, run historical backfills, or keep new matching conversations in sync automatically.

What Gets Synced

When you connect Gong to Deck, we sync:

  • Call metadata - title, call date, duration, owner, workspace, and source link
  • Transcripts - speaker-attributed transcript segments from Gong
  • Call recordings - optional media import when Gong exposes recording URLs
  • Customer metadata - optional contact metadata, only when enabled in privacy settings

Setting Up the Integration

  1. Navigate to Settings → Integrations
  2. Find Gong in the available integrations
  3. Click Connect and authorize Deck to access your Gong workspace
  4. Open Settings → Integrations → Gong
  5. Choose your default sync rules and save

After connection, Deck starts refreshing Gong owners, workspaces, and folders in the background. Those options are used by Gong settings and segment rules, so names may appear shortly after the connection finishes even before you save your first sync rule.

Sync Rules

Use Gong settings to control which conversations Deck imports:

  • Scope - external calls only or all calls
  • Minimum duration - skip short conversations
  • Owners - include calls owned by specific Gong users
  • Workspaces - include calls from specific Gong workspaces
  • Folders - include calls from Gong library folders when your Gong connection has library access

Folder access depends on Gong permissions. If Deck cannot read Gong folders, owner and workspace filters still work.

Import Options

You can bring Gong conversations into Deck in three ways:

  • Auto sync - import new conversations that match your saved rules each day
  • Historical backfill - import matching conversations from the last 1, 3, 6, or 12 months
  • Manual import - go to Manage → Gong, click Add Conversation, filter by date, owner, and scope, then choose specific calls

When you turn on Auto Sync, Deck first checks the last 24 hours for matching conversations and queues that initial sync before continuing with the daily schedule. If another Gong sync is already running, Deck saves the setting and runs the new check after the current sync finishes.

Deck estimates matching conversations before a backfill or initial Auto Sync and warns you when the import may use a large share of your remaining credits.

Manual import uses the same Gong connection but does not change your saved Auto Sync rules. During a manual import, you can choose whether Deck imports recordings and customer contact metadata for that import, and you can assign a default segment to selected calls when segments are enabled. Calls that were already imported are skipped instead of imported again.

How It Works

Once a call is imported, Deck:

  1. Creates a sales-call feedback item from the Gong transcript
  2. Analyzes the conversation for product feedback and customer insights
  3. Matches insights to your existing theme catalog first, and only creates new themes when the feedback does not fit an existing theme
  4. Applies matching segment rules, including Gong owner, workspace, and folder rules
  5. Generates video snippets for insight quotes when recording import is enabled and the source media is available

Gong sales-call processing prefers reusing themes you already have so large catalogs stay stable. When an organization already has many active themes, Deck still imports Gong insights that map to those existing themes; it only blocks new theme creation that would push past the Gong sales-call theme capacity (200 active themes).

Use Cases

  • Sales call analysis - Extract product feedback from prospect conversations
  • Win/loss insights - Understand why deals are won or lost
  • Feature request tracking - Identify most requested features from sales calls
  • Competitive intelligence - Surface competitor mentions and comparisons
  • Objection handling - Understand common objections and concerns

Managing the Integration

Manage your Gong integration in Settings → Integrations → Gong:

  • View sync status
  • Configure default sync rules
  • Enable or disable automatic sync
  • Run a historical backfill
  • Choose whether Deck imports call recordings
  • Choose whether Deck stores customer contact metadata from Gong
  • Disconnect the integration

Imported conversations appear in Manage → Gong and open in a transcript detail view like user interviews. New imports can appear while they are still processing, so you can see syncing, credit-blocked, failed, and completed conversations in the table.

From Manage → Gong, you can search imported conversations and filter them by status, call date, and customer segment. Use Add Conversation for manual imports or open the settings shortcut to adjust defaults.

Segment Rules

After Gong is connected, you can create segment rules from Settings → Segments that match:

  • Gong owner
  • Gong workspace
  • Gong folder
  • Gong as the feedback source

These rules can be applied retroactively to existing Gong conversations.

Deck keeps saved Gong owner labels readable by refreshing them from Gong reference data. If a rule was created before owner labels were available, Deck repairs the saved labels after the owner list refreshes.

Privacy and Security

Deck uses Gong's secure API through Nango. We only analyze calls you authorize and use the data solely to generate insights for your team.

Contact metadata from Gong is off by default. If you disable it after turning it on, Deck stops storing new Gong contact metadata and removes previously stored Gong-owned contact metadata from imported conversations.
